Say Goodbye to Zoom Face & Put Your Best Face Forward

After the past six months of living through a global pandemic, we’ve all had our fair share of Zoom calls. There’s nothing like staring at your own face for an hour to make you aware of even the smallest skin issue.

Zoom face. It’s real and it’s here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Save yourself and your clients from dreading video calls by following these tips both on and off camera!

Tip #1: Find Your Best Angle

Often you’re using Zoom on a computer so the camera is naturally positioned to catch you looking down, which is a notoriously unflattering angle.

Position your laptop or webcam at eye level so you’re looking directly at the camera. If necessary, use a stack of books to raise the camera so your head is upright and looking straight ahead (this is also better for your neck).

Tip # 2: Natural light is your friend

If possible, sit facing a window or other source of natural light. Not only is it more flattering, but natural light helps boost your mood and improves your energy level.

Be sure to use SPF because the sun’s UV rays can still cause damage through a window.

Tip #3: Use the right products for your skin type

To keep skin looking its best, be sure to use products formulated for a specific skin type. For example, if you have oily skin, but you use products designed for dry skin then your skincare regimen won’t be as effective.

When choosing products for yourself or your clients, be sure to take seasonal and environmental changes into consideration as well. As the weather turns colder and dryer, you may need to adjust a skincare regimen.

Tip #4: Boost skin hydration with a weekly mask

One of the easiest ways to help skin looks its best is to keep it hydrated. Using a daily moisturizer is essential and adding a weekly hydrating mask will help if you start to notice dryness.

A lot of your clients may be working from home these days which means they’re spending the day sitting in air conditioning. As we move into the cooler months, that will be replaced by heat which is even more drying.

You can help your clients keep their skin looking fresh and healthy by recommending a moisturizing mask they can do at home.

Tip #5: Exfoliate twice a week

Exfoliation reduces the buildup of dead skin cells making the skin appear brighter and healthier. It also promotes cell turnover and collagen production which gives the skin more elasticity and a more youthful appearance.

Regular exfoliation can keep the skin looking vibrant and also helps other skincare products to penetrate the skin more effectively. Exfoliating twice a week is enough to reap the benefits without damaging the skin.

The Bottom Line

At this point, we’re all well aware of how we look during a video call. Say goodbye to Zoom dread by following these simple tips. Bump up your usual product recommendations with helpful info for your clients so they too can put their best face forward.
