Hair Trends: Fashion Color Your Clients Will Love

Let’s face it – we all get bored with our hair sometimes. While some opt for a dramatic cut or color change, there are times when your clients will want something a little less permanent. Enter fashion color.

Fashion color is a semi-permanent hair color treatment that fades over time. It provides a way to experiment with a bolder choice without the long term commitment. Bright colors tend to fade between 4-8 weeks and soft, pastel shades begin to fade in 1-2 weeks.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the current fashion color trends. No matter your client’s current hair color, there’s something here for them.

Red

Bold cherry reds are popping up in the form of streaks, highlights, and all-over color. For those looking for something a little more subtle, try a deep burgundy tone.

Peach is finding its way on the scene for both redheads and blondes, with orangey tones that give a current twist to the traditional strawberry blonde.

Copper hair gloss is a low commitment way to dip a toe into ginger waters, giving blondes a strawberry hue and brunettes an amber glow.

Brown

Caramel highlights are a new twist for brunettes to get depth and variance without adding blonde. Babylights add a subtle hint of color without changing the overall shade dramatically.

Brunette balayage is another non-blonde route to add definition as hair can transition from deep mahogany to caramel or cinnamon.

We can’t talk about brown without mentioning the cool-toned mushroom brown that is a trendy alternative to more common golden brunette shades.

Black

It’s a misconception that only certain skin tones can handle black hair color, but this year’s inky black is defying those notions. A gloss will keep this deep tone looking shiny and healthy.

Cool tones are showing up in black hair as well, offering a softer shade of this typically intense color.

Blonde

The new platinum is buttery with golden undertones. These rich and warm tones are also translating into honey highlights.

On the other end of the spectrum is nordic white that’s almost silver. A purple shampoo will keep this shade from getting brassy or yellow.

Bold Color

One of the best things about fashion color is the freedom to experiment with bolder, non-traditional colors. Vibrant blues, pinks, and purples have made a big splash in the past year.

Pastel balayage is also having a moment as a fun twist on the more traditional blonde balayage we’ve been seeing over the past few years.

Lilac and amethyst is gaining traction as one of the most popular colors of the year. Just remember that to really let these purples shine, most hair will need to be bleached first.

The Bottom Line

One of the fun things about hair is that it’s easy to change. Fashion color makes it even easier to test out a new shade. Whether it’s a bold cherry red or a silvery platinum, the options are endless when it comes to trying new hair colors.
